Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only state-wide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

The Assistant Producer will assist the Series Producer in the production of MPT’s Artworks  and Chesapeake Collectibles series.

Artworks (AW6): Assist in production and editing of Co-Host shows (19 total) which begin airing in mid-December.

Chesapeake Collectibles (CC8): Assist in archival research and feature story production for 13 shows which premiere in January, 2018.

Note: Candidates will be required to complete a short, timed editing exercise on an MPT editing system.

POSITION DUTIES

Artworks 6:

* Assemble shows using episode template & Producer’s segment lists

* Generate Lower Third ID’s (L3’s) and Final Credits

* Artist notification of airdates. * Weekly Twitter posts promoting upcoming episodes

* Coordinate acquisition of POP-UP artists’ high resolution images 

* Coordinate acquisition of WAV files of local original music 

* Edit POP-UP & MUSIC Sequences – one each per episode

Chesapeake Collectibles 8:

* Assist producer on location feature story shoots.

* Ongoing: Research archival stills for historic context of selected items

* Weekly Twitter and bi-weekly Facebook posts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university in Media and Video & Film Production, Communications, Journalism, English or related field

Experience: At least two (2) years of experience which involves the various aspects of television production such as on location and studio shoots and editing. One (1) year must have included managing a production schedule, coordinating with a production crew, meeting deadlines, and ensuring that high levels of quality are maintained during the whole process to deliver excellent output. In addition, you must possess working knowledge of one of the following nonlinear editing software: AVID, FINAL CUT PRO, OR ADOBE PREMIERE.

* Ability to prioritize workload efficiently and manage multiple projects

* Effectively work under pressure, react quickly and meet tight deadlines

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12-month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
