Main Purpose of Job

This position functions as the Agency's Information Security Officer (ISO). Responsible for the overall development, implementation and maintenance of Agency Information Security Program (includes all media such as hard copy, electronic data transmission, electronic databases, information systems, and communication systems). Oversee the development, implementation and/or enhancement of policies, procedures and practices that ensure compliance with various agency (MIEMSS and State of Maryland, in particular) guidelines, and applicable federal and state law. Provide input in technical responses to audit findings. Collaborate with senior level administrators and directors within the agency in order to ensure compliance with MIEMSS and State of Maryland security directives/initiatives. Lead/manage response to active threats/intrusions and document the agency response to active threats. Apply technical experience with security hardware and software systems to lead/assist or perform system configuration/administration duties.

POSITION DUTIES

Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing catalog of policies,  procedures  and  practices that comply with agency guidelines, and applicable federal and state law for IT security.

Evaluate innovative tools and methods in order to maintain compliance with agency guidelines, and applicable federal and state law.

Maintain an expert level of understanding of the trends in information security.

Review system logs and security reports for security threats/concerns to agency information systems.

Advise senior management as to additions and changes required to maintain compliance with appropriate information security practices.

Educate staff on the need for compliance to regulations.

Evaluate Project Plans with regard to technical and administrative security requirements, strategic planning goals, and associated costs.

Respond to active threats/intrusions and document the agency response to active threats.

Assists/leads project management, implementation and maintenance of security related information security technical systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Requirements: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in IT Security, Computer Science or a related field.

Experience Requirements: Two years of professional experience in information security. At least one year of the experience must include experience using Cisco products.

Certification Requirement:  CCNA certified (Cisco Certified Network Associate)

Notes: A master's degree from an accredited university or college in information security, computer science or related degree may be substituted for the one year of general professional experience in information security.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with Sophos products

Security Certifications - Examples: CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) and GIAC (Global Information Assurance Certification).
