Main Purpose of Job

This position provides administrative, management, and personal secretarial assistance to the Laboratories Administration (LA)Director (Executive Service Official) and two (2) Deputy Directors. Incumbent acts as an intermediary for the Director with the Scientific and administrative staff members of the Divisions which include Public Health Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, Laboratory Preparedness and Response, Administrative and Support Services, Western Maryland Regional Laboratory in Cumberland and Eastern Shore Regional Laboratory in Salisbury. This position coordinates and verifies scientific and statistical reporting data, composes and reviews correspondences, prepares expense reports, and interprets Departmental and Administration policies and procedures; serves as the travel coordinator for the Administration. This is an Emergency Essential Position.

This position handles high-level, confidential, and sensitive materials and information in a professional and discrete manner; independently communicates with the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Secretary's Office and Deputy Secretary regarding correspondence, scheduling meetings, appointments, etc. on behalf of the Director and Deputy Directors. Also, has contact with MDH Administrations, including Attorney's General Office regarding legal matters, Office of Human Resource's, Payroll, Accounting, Hospitals, local health departments, State Police Crime Labs, Medical Examiners, Court, law offices, and the general public, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:    60 credits in business administration, public relations or related field from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE:   Five years of administrative support experience, with at least 2 years working at an executive level.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have knowledge of word processing, database, spreadsheet software applications; experience preparing and proof-reading correspondence, typing manuscripts, reports and tabulating information; knowledge of and experience performing professional office procedures, serving as a personal secretary/assistant to an Executive Service Official; representing a professional business or organization as a public relations liaison; and, be familiar with medical testing terminology.

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
