Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as the Medical Advisor, Long Term Services and Supports.  It functions as a Board-certified physician in the area of internal medicine, preventive medicine or other medical specialty with relevance to long term care and long-term services and supports, and serves as an expert witness in appeals hearings requested by Medicaid recipients who are denied medical eligibility for long term care and long-term services and supports. This position provides clinical and administrative supervision to the Program's utilization control agent (UCA), and provides medical consultation and policy recommendations to medical, administrative and supervisory staff of the Long Term Services and Supports Administrations (LTSSA).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.

Experience: As required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The sucessful applicant should have knowledge and experience in utilization review and experience as an expert witness in administrative hearings. The successful applicant should also have a Board-certified in one or more medical disciplines with relevance to long term services and supports.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.

2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
