Main Purpose of Job

The Emergency Medical Service Training Specialist II is a contractual position responsible for overseeing the Emergency Medical Responder course applications, EMR processing for refresher and initial courses. Assist with processing Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) refreshers and administering EMT practical examinations. Assist with EMR and EMT course development and attend BLS committee meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience developing, implementing and conducting training and testing for the certification of providers of emergency medical services.

Notes: 

1. Additional experience as a certified emergency medical services provider, certified emergency medical services instructor or emergency medical services test evaluator may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Emergency Management classifications or Emergency Management specialty codes in the Emergency Management field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification are required to possess current certification as an Emergency Medical Services Provider (EMT or Paramedic) and Emergency Medical Services Instructor (MICRB).

2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification are required to maintain current certification as an Emergency Medical Services Provider (EMT or Paramedic) and Emergency Medical Services Instructor(MICRB) .

3. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator license valid in the State of Maryland.

For education obtained outside the U.S. a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service may be required prior to hire.

BENEFITS

CONTRACTUAL HEALTH BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

CONTRACTUAL TEMPORARY LEAVE BENEFITS

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
