Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to evaluate, diagnose, and monitor medication treatment (at the full performance level) of patients, including ordering laboratory studies and other diagnostic tests, as indicated. This position assesses crisis situations and makes appropriate recommendations, and coordinates care, as indicated, with primary care providers, other medical specialists, families, and caregivers. This position will also be available for education, evaluation, and consultation with a multi-disciplinary staff, and supervision of students, as needed. It will also coordinate treatment planning with clinicians of other disciplines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses under the certification requirements for Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife.

Experience:  One year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse-Midwife.

Note:  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife classification or Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse Midwife from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.  Please attached a current copy of your nursing license to your application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
