Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to investigate complaints made to the Maryland Board of Nursing regarding a potential breach of the standards of nursing practice as they relate to violations of the Nurse Practice Act. This is a major component in fulfilling the Board of Nursing's mission of protecting the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None

Note: 1. Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse may be substituted for the Education requirement.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing specialty codes in the inspection of health care facilities and program field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant will have clinical nursing experience in at least two areas of nursing with demonstrated experience in preparation of detailed and organized chronologies (utilization review, quality assurance, nursing risk management or legal/forensic nursing). The successful applicant will also have experience conducting investigative interviews.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
