Main Purpose of Job

A Building Security Officer II is responsible for assisting hospital police officers to protect the safety of the staff, patients, and equipment at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center. Building Security Officer's primarily work 8am-4pm and 4pm to 12am but on occasion due to unforeseen security needs, may have to work 12am-8am (Candidate must be able to work all three shifts).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Ability to read and write.

Experience: Two years of experience in building security work.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in master-at-arms classifications or law enforcement specialty codes in the site security field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate should have prior work experience with psychiatric patients, and have certification as a MPCTC Correctional Officer.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to acquire telephone service at their place of residence.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
