Main Purpose of Job

The mission of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Prevention and Health Promotion Administration is to protect, promote and improve the health and well-being of all Marylanders and their families through provision of public health efforts in partnership with local health departments, providers, community based organizations, and public and private sector agencies, giving special attention to at-risk and vulnerable populations. The mission of the Center for Sexually Transmitted Infections Prevention (CSTIP) is to reduce and prevent sexually transmitted infections in Maryland. The main purpose of this position is to coordinate and manage all stages of Maryland's STI epidemiological analysis. This position will be responsible for analyzing statewide data to describe trends of STI infection and congenital exposures across the state of Maryland, generating reports and statistics and evaluate changes in STI prevention and health services outcomes. Based on analyses of surveillance data, this position recommends programmatic changes to enhance the effectiveness of various HIV programs across the state. This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Center for STI Surveillance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.

Experience: None

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science  classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant will have training in Microsoft Office and experience using Excel and Access to conduct analyses and queries. Experience with SAS or other statistical software is a plus but not required.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
