Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to support the activities of the Behavioral Health Administration's (BHA) Prevention Office through the intermediate level of work providing statistical analysis of a range of State databases to better understand Maryland's substance use, addiction, and overdose trends and inform the development, implementation, and evaluation of prevention initiatives. The position will have flexible responsibilities to support both public health surveillance and programs, and will also facilitate data interchange between State agencies; use SAS or analogous software to identify controlled substance prescribing and dispensing trends; develop surveillance reports that visually display and analyze geographic and other surveillance data; provide scientific advice and technical assistance to stakeholders and outside partners with respect to surveillance and other epidemiologic data and evaluation expertise; and analyze data to help develop and evaluate BHA programs and their impact.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.
Experience: None
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
