Introduction

This position is located in the Office of Workforce Information and Performance (OWIP). OWIP's mission is to collect,analyze, and produce labor market and workforce information as a service to businesses, job seekers, students, workforce and economic development programs and their community of service providers in Maryland. Our primary function is to make workforce and economic data and analysis easily accessible for informed decisions, from individual choices to workforce and economic policy directions.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

This position will provide support to the Projections Economist, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Programs Manager, and the Labor Market Information (LMI) Team by assisting with data collection, entry, and analysis. The goal of this position is to support OWIP’s mission to provide timely and accurate Labor Market Information to the public, job seekers, and policy makers. This position will use tools for data collection and analysis to assist in the production of industry and occupational projections of Maryland employment in the short and long term. This position will also assist in the dissemination of Labor Market Information Data by contributing to the LMI Team's efforts to create publications centered on LMI data. Preferred Qualifications The following experience is desired but not required for this position: - Experience using Microsoft Excel - One or more years experience in labor market analysis and/or economic research. - Experience using database management software including MS access, MS SQL server, MySQL, ext.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Two years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Must have at least 1 year experience involving data analysis (collecting, analyzing, and evaluating data, and developing reports based on collected data).

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following experience is desired but not required for this position:  

- Experience using Microsoft Excel

- One or more years experience in labor market analysis and/or economic research. 

- Experience using database management software including MS access, MS SQL server, MySQL, ext.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
