Main Purpose of Job

Responsible for conducting interviews with persons seeking employment and for providing assistance to employers needing qualified personnel to fill vacancies. Preferred qualifications: The successful candidate will have at least 1 year experience in the field of workforce development, conducting job-ready interviews, registering job applicants, verifying job referrals, conducting vocational placements, performing unemployment adjudications, or appraising job applicants for employability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience in the field of workforce development, taking job orders, conducting job-ready interviews, registering job applicants, verifying job referrals, conducting vocational placements, performing unemployment adjudications, or appraising job applicants for employability.

Note:

1. Education at an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of experience.

2. Active duty military recruiting experience or career counseling experience may be substituted on a year-by-year bases for the required education.

SELECTION PROCESS

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS

Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. A copy of your proof of eligibility (DD 214) for Veterans’ Credit must be in this office and completely verified before Veterans’ Credit will be approved.  Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of eligibility for Veterans’ Credit.
