Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs (OEOP) in investigating complaints of discrimination, unfair work issues, mediate conferences and convene training. This position is also responsible for outreach and other required technical support and/or assistance to the Minority Business Enterprises (MBE) Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year to year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for this position must possess at least one (1) year of experience in conducting investigations, preferably EEO investigations and possess at least one (1) year of experience in MBE related work (specifically outreach, monitoring, and tracking).

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position should have excellent customer service skills, ability to work with the general public and varying internal and external agency representatives. The successful applicant should have experience in resolving issues and concerns, independently and as a team player; the individual must be objective, inquisitive, very analytical, thorough, organized and detailed oriented. This successful applicant must be able to tackle and balance a full workload for two programs within the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs. The successful candidate must be able to learn, acquire, and utilize specialized skills in this position, related to EEO and MBE. The successful applicant will assist in ensuring the agency is in compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations, with regard to MBE and EEO. The successful candidate must be adept in report writing- documenting details and facts in an objective manner, without making subjective inferences.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
