Main Purpose of Job

The Environmental Health Specialist Supervisor will assist the Program Supervisor in the planning, development, implementation, and administration of the Community Hygiene Program. This position represents the first level of supervision within the Rabies/Vector control and Community Hygiene Division. This position responsibilities include: Oversight and inspection of non-public pools, foster care and adoption homes, and camps to ensure compliance with public health and safety laws. In addition to investigate nuisance complaints and animal attack reports, collection of suspect rabies specimens, application of larvacides to control mosquitos and conduct human and domestic animal rabies risk assessments. Position requires occasional after hours and weekend work, as well as office coverage until 5 pm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.

Experience: Two years of experience performing inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with environmental health laws and regulations.

Notes: 

1. A Master of Public Health or Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or Environmental Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering and Natural Resources field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Limited to Harford County Health Department staff

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists. "A copy of your current license must be attached to your application."

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated.  The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Please report all related education, experience, dates and hours of work.  For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.  All information concerning your qualifications must be submitted by the closing date.  We will not consider information submitted after this date.  Applicants certified to list will receive eligibility for a period of one (1) year.  Eligibility may be extended beyond one (1) year period.
