Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this job is to provide oversight to programs designed to intervene early and effectively in the lives of young people experiencing a first episode of schizophrenia or other serious psychosis. The development of these programs is a federal requirement set forth by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as a condition of the Federal Mental Health Block grant. Because these programs are funded through a 'set-aside' requirement of the block grant award, the position will be responsible for all federal reporting requirements stemming from the award and meeting overall expectations of SAMHSA in regard to the program. As a result, the position will require extensive contract monitoring, implementation and oversight of new outreach and peer support programming for demonstration sites, and conducting educational activities in association with the program trainers & evaluators. In addition, the position will coordinate will all First Episode of Psychosis (FEP) staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.

Experience:  Five years of professional experience in health services, two years of which must have been in the option for which application is made.

NOTES:

1.  Applicants may substitute a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human service field for one year of the required general experience.

2.  Experience in the option must be as follows: professional work related to treatment and services for mentally ill patients.

3.  A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.

4.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have experience working with adolescents and young adults experiencing the initial onset of schizophrenia/other psychotic disorders.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
