Introduction
This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of the Environment. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only. The resulting cert list will be maintained for one year. Persons interested in future vacancies with the classification must re-apply.
This position is located in the Annapolis Field Office. Candidates must be willing to work in the Southern Maryland region (Calvert, Charles, St. Mary's and lower Prince George's Counties).

Main Purpose of Job
The Natural Resources Planner I is an entry level position within the Water and Science Administration. This position includes, but is not limited to the bacteriological monitoring of permitted oyster operations either by boat or remote locations by land in the Southern Maryland region (Calvert, Charles, St. Mary's and lower Prince George's Counties) as required by State and Federal statues. Routine bacteriological monitoring of growing waters is also imperative to this position in order to generate data that allows for the proper classifications of natural shellfish producing waters and reinforces the objectives of the cooperative state/industry/ federal program for the certification of interstate shellfish shippers and ensure the continued endorsement of Maryland's shellfish program by USFDA.
In addition, this position will perform on-site consultations and inspections of wastewater treatment plans, industrial, commercial facilities, agricultural and residential sites as part of the program's shoreline survey assessment (Southern MD region). Assessments are designed to identify and report any sanitary violations (point and/or non-point) in order to assure the sanitary quality and public health safety of all Maryland shellfish products.
This position is located out of the Maryland Department of Environment's , Annapolis Field Office. This position will be required to report to the Annapolis Field Office at least once a week. This position will required to work in the Southern Maryland region (Calvert, Charles, St. Mary's and lower Prince George's Counties.)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development.
Experience: None
Notes:
1. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in urban or regional planning, engineering, physical geography, or the physical, chemical, biological sciences and one year of experience in natural resources planning or applied environmental science may be substituted for the required education.
2. Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in natural resources planning, management, administration, development, environmental, urban or regional planning; resources economics or development; environmental system management; water or land resources planning and management; environmental landscape architecture; or the physical, biological, chemical or environmental sciences maybe substituted for up to three years of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the general natural resources management and biological sciences classifications or general natural resources management and biological sciences specialty codes in the general natural resources management and biological sciences field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
It is preferred that the selected candidate has the following:

A valid driver's license;

Experience with the operations a boat or a boater's license;

Experience trailering a boat.
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
This position is located out of the Maryland Department of Environment's, Annapolis Field Office. This position will be required to report to the Annapolis Field Office at least once a week. This position will be required to work in the Southern Maryland region (Calvert, Charles, St. Mary's and lower Prince George's Counties)

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Please note that you will be required by the appointing agency to provide proof upon hire of all certifications, licenses, educational and work experiences.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
