Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Heritage Service, is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Contractual Forester Licensed position located at Cambridge Work Center, Cambridge, Maryland. This position will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing forestry activities that will be important for various wildlife habitat management projects on private and public lands on the Eastern Shore of Maryland from September 2017-June 2018 (up to 1000 hours).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

For education obtained outside of the United States (U.S.), you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the U.S., please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html with the application.

Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in forestry from a school of forestry accredited by the Society of American Foresters.

Experience: Two years of forestry experience involving forest or park management, wildlife biology, forest recreation planning, forest engineering, urban and community forestry, timber harvest and marketing, forest planning or forest protection.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute a Master of Science degree approved by the State Board of Foresters for one year of the required experience.

2. The education and experience requirements are pursuant to the Business Occupations and Professions Article, Sections 7-206 and 7-304 of the Annotated Code.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the natural resources management and biological sciences classifications or natural resources management and biological sciences specialty codes in the forestry field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following.  Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

• Knowledge and experience with early-successional wildlife habitat requirements.

• The ability to provide forest management recommendations to meet wildlife habitat or ecosystem restoration objectives.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
