Main Purpose of Job

This position is located in Washington County, Maryland.

This position is responsible for both semi-skilled (rough) and skilled (finish) carpentry assignments such as: furniture repair; laying floors; building sheds, fences and partitions; installing doors and windows; and adapting (or creating) rehabilitative equipment to meet the specified, special needs of the Potomac Center's residents.  These duties are to be carried out at all times pursuant to Center policies; applicable regulations including MOSHA and OSHA; Memoranda of Understanding; Department of Engineering and Maintenance; and, mandated licensure requirements including ADA; State Fire Marshall, Confined Spaces, CMS, DGS, Office of Health Care Quality, Asbestos, ICF/MR and EPA.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in carpentry, two (2) years of which must have been in finish or trim carpentry work or in cabinetmaking.

Notes: 1. Applicants may substitute additional carpentry experience at a rate of one year of experience for two years of the required education for up to four years of the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a concentration in carpentry may be substituted for three years of the required general carpentry experience.

3. Graduation from a vocational or technical trade school with a concentration in carpentry may be substituted for up to three years of the required general carpentry experience.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
