Main Purpose of Job

The Administrative Specialist III will be responsible for researching cases, regulations and statues pertinent to cases under the Board's jurisdiction as well as research case law for our board prosecutors and other board discipline staff. This position will be delegated the task of drafting suspension orders and notices of agency action as well as responsible for providing administrative support to the attorneys and division director. Working under the general supervision of the division director, this position supports the administration of the department with the preparation of disciplinary orders, consent orders/agreements, case memoranda, advisory letters, legal briefings and other pleadings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above at the rate of one year experience for 30 credit hours of education for up to 60 credit hours of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will have experience as a legal secretary or assistant, or experience in litigation and/or administrative law.  Candidate should demonstrate use of critical thinking and analytical skills with evidence of experience in preparing briefings, pleadings, affidavits, and subpoenas. Possession of an Associate Degree or higher in legal studies, criminal justice, or human services is preferred. Must be able to produce documents, correlate, and track statistical data through Microsoft Office applications.  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
