Main Purpose of Job
This position is located in the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center, a maximum security forensic psychiatric hospital, where care is provided to mentally ill offenders, patients or residents who have been judged not criminally responsible for committing felonies and to those who are too violent for a regular hospital or residential setting and who have been deemed dangerous to themselves or others. The duties assigned to this position involve working with patients who may be unpleasant, aggressive or hostile.
The main purpose of this position is to deliver assessment, treatment, case management, patient education and discharge planning services to a caseload of patients with the ultimate goal of maintaining a safe environment for the patient and the community during and after discharge to a less restrictive setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.
Experience: None.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates must be licensed as a Graduate Social Worker or Certified Social Worker by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Testing Unit. Please attach copy of license or license verification to application or include license number and expiration date on application.
2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
