Main Purpose of Job

A Maintenance Chief III, Non Licensed is the supervisory level of stationary engineering and building maintenance work. Non-licensed employees supervise skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance workers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Four years experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including three years of responsibility for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  At least six months experience working in a correctional or secure juvenile detention setting assigning work to maintenance staff in the fields of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry and grounds maintenance.

2. Knowledge of and experience implementing safety security policies such as key control and tool control. 

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

The recruitment is limited to current Maryland Department of Juvenile Services employees.  You must be a current Maryland Department of Juvenile Services employee.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in the licensed option must possess and maintain a current Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer License from the Board of Examining Engineers and must list the license number and date on the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.  This list will be used by the DJS hiring agency to select employees.
