Main Purpose of Job

This position will function as a Plumbing Foreman.  This position is responsible for the safety of the plumbing staff and daily organization and management of the Plumbing Shop.  Specifically, this position will: conduct safety inspections of plumbing equipment/infrastructure in all mechanical rooms throughout the Springfield campus; supervise the cleaning, repair, enhancement, modification of water supply and waste infrastructure (pumps, valves, pipes, fixtures, water heaters, etc.); organize, schedule and coordinate the technical building maintenance work and installation services performed by skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled employees assigned to the trades and general services section; inspect completed job assignments for adherence to plumbing codes and standards; compare costs of completed jobs with original cost estimates; and, supervise and provide on-the-job training to semi-skilled and unskilled employees.  This position will use a computer and computer applications to: receive and process work requests and preventive maintenance work orders for the plumbing department; ensure work orders are closed out in a timely manner; communicate via-email and calendar; maintain up-to-date documentation on work order system; and, generate required reports and logs required to coordinate projects within the plumbing unit and coordinate projects with other maintenance units.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Four (4) years experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades, including three (3) years of responsibility for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate will have experience:

-- with Project Management

-- supervising building maintenance workers

-- utilizing MS Office Programs to receive and process work requests and orders and coordinate and generate project logs

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in the licensed option must possess and maintain a current Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer License from the Board of Examining Engineers and must list the license number and date on the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
