Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to coordinate the kitchen operation including cleaning, sanitizing, food receiving, storage, production, service and distribution of food in a timely manner. Monitors temperatures of food, refrigerated equipment and other food cleaning or preparation equipment. Keeps accurate production records and all necessary logs. This relates to the mission of the agency by providing safe, nutritious meals for youth housed at DJS residential programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Three years of experience in food preparation at a public or governmental establishment, such as a restaurant, hospital or comparable institution involving the cooking of meats and vegetables and the preparation of salads and beverages.

Note: 1. Graduation from an accredited vocational/technical high school with a major in food service or a related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Culinary classifications or Food Services specialty codes in the Equipment Services and Facilities field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Three years of experience in the preparation of food in an institutional setting such as hospitals, nursing homes, universities or correctional facilities.

2. Possession of an Associates of Arts degree or a Bachelor of Science/Arts degree in Culinary Arts, food and restaurant management, or a related field.

Please note that your answers on the Supplemental Questionnaire must correspond to the information provided on your application to receive credit.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
