Main Purpose of Job

An Election Data Application Specialist I is the entry level of specialized data processing work in a local election office. Employees process, verify and audit voter records and apply election laws, rules and procedures to work problems. Employees in this classification do not supervise.

POSITION DUTIES

Prepare, update and complete changes of equipment inventory.

Complete entry changes daily;

Participate in voter outreach and educational programs including training voter registration volunteers both in person in the office and by attending community and public affairs;

Create checklists for supplies, materials, and equipment needed for the polling places to operate efficiently;

Serve the public and elected officials with information by telephone, mail, or in person by answering questions, supplying necessary forms and instructions;

Complete special projects, such as PEMS, L&A, SDR, locating and evaluating new polling places and other election related projects that arise;

Provide support and/or assistance t co-workers as needed in various departments to achieve their goals and deadlines. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six months of experience in the operation of data entry devices.

Notes:

1. General clerical experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education. General clerical experience is defined as work performing a variety of clerical duties which are clear-cut and typically found in office settings, such as filing, copying, posting data and directing telephone calls.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Computer Clerk and Assistant classifications or Computer Clerk and Assistant specialty codes in the General, Administrative, Clerical, and Officer Services field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience operating data entry devices in a local election office during a presidential or gubernatorial election in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are required to be registered voters in the State of Maryland in accordance with the Election Law Article, Section 2-207(d).

2. Employees in this classification may not hold or be a candidate for any elective public or political party office or any other office created under the Constitution or laws of this State in accordance with the Election Law Article, Section 2-301(b).
