This is an internal recruitment limited to current Permanent and Contractual employees of the Maryland Department of Agriculture.

Main Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for review and preliminary approval of applications for individuals seeking commercial and public agency certification. Grading exams and processing test and result notices, lists and information for individuals seeking certification as commercial, public agency or private applicators. Responsible for the examining, processing, renewing, certifying, maintaining files and data entry for Private Applicators. Processing supply and purchase orders, coding, logging and maintaining files for purchase orders, supply orders and invoices.
POSITION DUTIES
Determines categories of pest control in which an applicant is eligible to become certified. Enters information concerning applicants for commercial and public agency applicator certification into computer database.
Reviews applications of individuals seeking reciprocal certification to determine minimum requirements are met and required documentation has been submitted. Verifies certification status, categories and exam history with licensing agency in appropriate state. Generates approval/denial letter to be sent to applicant.
Assists with review and approval of annual commercial applicator certificate and business license renewal. Contact applicator via telephone, email, egov or generates and issues correspondence to licensee or applicator.
Electronically grades and enters information concerning applicants for private applicator certification into computer database. Generate renewal notices.
Receives supply orders, issues, processes and maintains log of purchase orders, prepares and processes codes, tracks and maintains invoices for payment of supplies and goods.
Maintain files and records of licenses, permitees and applicators. Assists with special mailings to regulated community.
Responds to phone calls, emails and walk-in customers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.
Notes:
1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least one year of experience with Oracle database.

Limited to current Permanent and Contractual employees of the Maryland Department of Agriculture.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
