Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide general maintenance & custodial services to common areas of all buildings located on the Baker Training Facility. Provide general grounds keeping service on adjacent grounds within established perimeters. Makes minor repairs to buildings and equipment within skill level. Write work order requests.

POSITION DUTIES

Make minor repairs and alterations to buildings.

Empty trash containers, waste containers and recycling containers. Remove waste from buildings. Assist in moving furniture, supplies, and equipment.

Clean and disinfects latrines, lavatory fixtures, walls, windows, and light fixtures.

Cut grass in designated areas and around assigned buildings using power equipment.

Shovels/removes snow, spreads salt, sand, or stone during icy conditions.

Maintain tools.

Monitor facility security.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Three years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades provided that at least two years of such experience shall have been primarily with the trades of electricity, plumbing, steamfittings, refrigeration or air-conditioning.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.

2. A degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
