Main Purpose of Job

The Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA) consists of over 400 employees divided into four Bureaus and containing 26 Centers and Offices with personnel situated at 500 N. Calvert Street, 201 W. Preston Street, 6 St. Paul Street, and in health departments throughout the state. The mission of PHPA is to protect, promote and improve the health and well-being of all Marylanders and their families through provision of public health leadership and through community-based public health efforts in partnership with local health departments, providers, community-based organizations, and in public and private sector agencies, giving special attention to at-risk and vulnerable populations. The Center for HIV Surveillance, Epidemiology and Evaluation is in the Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Outbreak Response Bureau in PHPA. The Center for HIV Surveillance, Epidemiology and Evaluation seeks to collect the information necessary to describe the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Maryland to evaluate the effectiveness of prevention and services programs targeting the HIV/AIDS epidemic. This is a non-supervisory position responsible for providing data entry and clerical support to epidemiologists conducting scientific studies of the epidemiology of HIV to measure the impact on the peoples and institutions of Maryland. This is accomplished by accurately entering medical data from source documents into the Maryland State HIV Registry (eHARS). The database and computers are located within the main offices of the Center for HIV Surveillance, Epidemiology and Evaluation (CHSEE) in Baltimore, Maryland

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:   Ability to key large amounts of alpha, numeric or symbolic data from source documents into a computer or onto magnetic tape or disk according to a production schedule.

NOTE:

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the clerical support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.  Candidates must demonstrate ability to keyboard forty words per minute on a standard keyboard or one hundred keystrokes per minute on data entry equipment.

2.  Employees in this classification must meet production standards established by the employing agency.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
