Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to develop and manage the Quality Improvement (QI) and Peer Review Program for the Behavioral Health Administration's (BHA) Office of Forensics. This position may be involved with the development and management of assessment tools and/or processes for the forensic evaluation functions of the Office of Forensics. In addition, other duties assigned to this position may include, but not be limited to: (a)participation in clinical decision-making for the Office of Forensics; (b) program development; (c) reviewing complex forensic cases; (d) participation in the development and/or implementation of clinical policies/procedures; and (e) the provision of clinical guidance to facility forensic coordinators, staff, and/or to community based forensic evaluators. This position may also represent the office in court proceedings regarding forensic cases and may represent the Director of Forensics at meetings and/or other related activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

Experience: Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research after receipt of the License as a Psychologist.

Note:

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Clinical Psychology classifications or Psychology specialty codes in the Psychology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will possess experience in forensic psychology.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Testing Unit to remove pending status.***A copy of your current licensure should accompany your completed application.***

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
