Introduction

The Secure Evaluation & Therapeutic Treatment Program (SETT) is designed to provide the highly specialized clinical evaluation, treatment, habilitation, security and service planning to individuals with mental retardation who are committed to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) by the courts for evaluation and/or care and treatment.

Main Purpose of Job

The SETT Program has two locations, one in Jessup and the other in Sykesville. The SETT is an thirty-two bed (32) evaluation and long term unit for individuals in need of care and treatment. The main purpose of this position is to provide assessment services, behavioral health support services, therapeutic interventions including individual and group therapy services, behavioral support plans to residents, staff support through training and consultation. In addition, this position may offer transitional services as individuals move to other settings or less restrictive community settings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Master’s degree in Psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university in a program acceptable to the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists.

Experience: Fours years of supervised experience, after completion of the Master’s degree, rendering psychological services or engaged in research.

Note: 1. A twelve month internship required for a Master’s or Doctoral degree may be substituted for one year of experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Clinical Psychology classifications or Psychology specialty codes in the Psychology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have previous experience working with individuals who are intellectually disabled.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Prior to being appointed the candidate must apply to the Board of Examiners of Psychologists for an exemption from licensure. Failure to obtain an exemption within six months of employment will result in termination, unless the Board grants an extension.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
