Introduction

This recruitment is limited to current Maryland Police Officers, that possess a current certification card as a Police Officer by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission.

This is a statewide recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Natural Resources Police. The resulting eligible list will be used to fill positions in the Natural Resources Police throughout the State of Maryland. This is a statewide position, applicants selected for this position must be willing to be stationed anywhere in the State of Maryland.  Applicants certified to this list will remain eligible for this position for at least one year.

Main Purpose of Job

The incumbent will be enforcing State and federal laws and DNR rules and regulations as they apply to conservation, boating, DNR managed lands, criminal, civil, and traffic violations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation.

Experience: None.

Note: The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Public Safety Article, Section 3-207.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required licenses and/or certifications must be listed under the "Licenses and Certifications" section of the application. Failure to do so will result in being found ineligible for the position.

1. Applicants must possess a police officer certification as required by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission at the time of application. The applicant must hold a valid / current certification and training standards compliance card which is:

 a. Issued by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission and

 b. Has a certificate number and current certification date and

 c. Certifies that you have met the requirements for training and certification as a Police Officer in Maryland

2. Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle and will be required to possess a motor operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Selection standards for police officer certification are established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Public Safety Article, Section 3-207. These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.04 and include the following: U.S. Citizenship; must be at least 21 years of age; a completed background investigation, including a check of criminal history; an oral interview and truth verification device testing; physical and psychological examination following offer of employment.

2. Employees are subject to call-in 24-hours a day and, therefore, will be required to provide the employer with a phone number where they can be reached.

3. Employees in this classification will be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.

4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations, 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

5. Employees in this classification are subject to assignment in any area of the State.

6. Employees in this classification will serve a two-year probation period.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Your application is part of the examination process. The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience related to the requirements of this position. The rating will be based on the information provided on your application. Therefore, it is important that you provide all the experience and education that is related to this position completely and accurately.

Selected applicants will be subjected to a comprehensive background investigation to include a polygraph examination, oral interview, drug screening, medical and psychological examinations.

You will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
