Main Purpose of Job

The Food Service Supervisor directs the duties of dietary employees to provide meals for hospital patients and employees while ensuring that HACCP regulations and COMAR sanitary standards are applied in the food service operations at all times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in food production or service for a large scale food service operation, of which one year must include supervising workers engaged in quantity food production or service.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in food production or service for a large scale food service operation may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.

2. Additional education in the area of food service management, nutritional care, institutional administration or related area may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the non-supervisory required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer as a non-commissioned officer in Food or Culinary Specialist classifications or Food Services Manager, Services Officer, Food Service Specialist or Service Specialist specialty codes in the Food Production or Service field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached or carry an electronic pager.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
