Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to investigate the finances of patients and legally liable sponsors to determine their ability to pay the cost of care at State Medical Facilities in order to maximize revenue for the State of Maryland. The incumbent will conduct personal interviews with patients, secure information from other agencies, and complete Medical Assistance applications for the patient's cost of care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None

Note: Experience in health care financing work on the life/health insurance fields in the investigation and/or adjustment of claims may be substituted at the rate of one year for 30 credit hours for up to 60 credit hours of the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate should have at least 6 months prior experience in creating, updating, and submitting the Nursing Home Self Audit Balance Report on a monthly and quarterly basis following the guidelines set by Maryland Medicaid. The candidate should also have experience in insurance and Medicare billing, and be able to conduct interviews and perform financial investigations.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle, Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland, and to have access to a vehicle for daily use.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
