Main Purpose of Job

On a 24 hr., 7 days a week basis, operates, controls and maintains physical plant systems and equipment that emanate from power plant throughout facility. Monitor steam production, maintain hourly and dailys logs of pressure, temperature, water levels, etc. Monitor high pressure fire pumps, sprinkler system, PM and repair of pumps, bad sprinkler head. Responsible for inspection, licensing of boiler including yearly tear down and repair, tube cleaning, replacement of fire brick and castables, repairing or replacing feed water pumps, monitors and makes repairs of steam delivery system components, valves, regulators, steam distribution, and minor leaks in steam line.

Functional knowledge, experience, and demonstrated ability to operate, control, troubleshoot, diagnose, and make appropriate repairs to system problems or emergencies. Maintains competency, proficiency, and licensing requirements via regular training, review, and demonstrated familiarity with OPM manuals, utility plans, emergency response plans, and all applicable safety and licensing requirements. Successfully completes situational or scenario problem solving, and appropriately demonstrates and applies knowledge skills to real problems or emergencies. Commitment to quality customer service and ability to work in-patient and clinical areas adhering to and utilizing applicable infection control procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Two years of experience in a boiler room facility tending a boiler.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional licensed stationary engineering experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience as a non-commissioned officer in Steelworker classifications or Mechanical Maintenance specialty codes in the Metal Fabrication, Assembly, Installation, and Repair field of work on year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Stationary Engineer, First Grade from the State Board of Stationary Engineers.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require the individual to be examined by a physician. After an offer of employment, applicants for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform the essential job functions.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
