Main Purpose of Job

Performs analysis on agricultural materials, such as fertilizer pesticides and pesticides to determine the amount of the active ingredients on the label to ensure that the product meets label claim within a predefined limit. Performs analyses that support the Department's, the environment and to provide support for agriculture.

POSITION DUTIES

This position is the entry level of work performing chemical, analytical, diagnostic and environmental laboratory testing to determine compliance with applicable consumer protection, public health and environmental standards and federal, state and local regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or other related science which includes completion of at least 24 credit hours in chemistry from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in chemistry classification or chemistry specialty codes in the chemistry field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Six months experience testing pesticide samples, both formulation and trace analysis with environmental matrices.

Six months experience with Gas and Liquid Chromatographs with mass spectrometry detection.  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.

Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
