Main Purpose of Job
The purpose of the Peer Recovery Support Specialist is of guiding, supporting, and assisting individuals and families on the recovery continuum. Will faciliate the planning and implementation of recovery support activities at the Howard County Health Department, Howard County Wellness and Recovery Center, and other outreach locations. Determine recovery support needs, refer individuals and families to the appropriate community resources that are beyond the scope of services. Complete and submit required forms, reports, and Value Options/Electronic Medical Record data entry required by the agency/Behavioral Health Administration.
This is a peer to peer support position. This position requires that an eligible candidate possess 2 years in recovery.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of experience in providing information on health care and disease prevention within the community.
Note:
1. Experience providing assistance to individuals in a health care or social services setting may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Health Services classifications or Health Services and specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires that an eligible candidate possess 2 years in recovery.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Desired qualifications:
- Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist
- Experience with clients and/or customer service
- Experience with data entry and writing reports
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
