Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position responsible for managing a library within a correctional setting and/or coordinating  and managing the provision of transition/and community information services.

POSITION DUTIES

Manages the provision of library and information services within the Department of Public & Correctional Services using current library practices; develops and manages collection; provides reference services and aids patrons in the development of information seeking and finding skills; promotes the use of the program; assures access and delivery of library services within the facility/facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

A Master’s Degree in Library Information Science or Library Media from a college or university graduate program accredited by the American Library Association

Experience:

One year of professional library experience

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the minimum and selective qualifications to be considered.

Must possess a current Library Media Specialist Certification issued by the Maryland State Department of Education – MSDE (A copy of current Maryland State Department Certificate must be submitted with application)

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are preferred, not required:

Knowledge of current library practices, telecommunications, and electronic technologies; skill in providing a variety of library services to a diverse customer base; skill in managing multiple tasks; ability to supervise a diverse workforce; ability to work as a team member; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to lift and move materials and equipment; ability to schedule, manage, and drive mobile unit to designed Pre-Release Sites.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
