Main Purpose of Job

To provide progressive education leadership and supervision of staff and students of the High School program; provide models of effective teaching strategies to instructional staff; participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Maryland Common Core State Standards; manage complex change to align curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure students are learning at high levels; evaluate job performance of team leaders, teachers, and teacher aides; assist in the development and implementation of IEPs; assist in the assessment of staff needs and providing staff development; participate in the coordination of class scheduling and teacher assignments; participate in the maintenance of Bilingual Education concepts throughout the School; direct and assist in management of student behavior; participate in the review of applications, interview of applicants, and submitting recommendations for hire of new faculty members and professional staff; and assume other responsibilities as designated by the Principal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master's Degree in the Education of Deaf students, Education of Deaf students with additional disabilities, or related field required.  Maryland State Department of Education Administrator I required (or the ability to obtain in a specific time).

Experience: A minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students is required.  Fluency in American Sign Language and written English, and knowledge of Deaf community required.  Superior interpersonal and active listening skills required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in administration/supervision preferred.  Experience in leadership activities that involve organizing, planning, directing, and monitoring resources preferred.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Must be proficient in American Sign Language and written English.  Knowledge of Deaf community required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense.  (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)
