Introduction

Main Purpose of Job

To provide progressive educational leadership, supervision, and evaluation of assistant principals (Elementary, Middle School and Family Education Departments), professional staff, residential program staff, support staff, and students and work closely with the Frederick Campus Assistant Superintendent/Principal with regards to the coordination, implementation, and review of the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) curricula and assessments.  Support the Bilingual Education concepts throughout the School and oversee the residential program to ensure the children are provided a safe and happy environment.  Serve as the point of contact for parents/guardians.

POSITION DUTIES

Lead the Columbia Campus Administrative Team (CCAT).

Supervise and evaluate Assistant Principals, Director of Related Services, School Psychologist, Director of Student Life, Mental Health Coordinator, and others.

Work closely with the Personnel department on recruitment and disciplinary matters.

Investigate and discipline when necessary, staff and/or student complaints, and school policy violations.

Serve on Admissions Review Team.

Review IEPs and report cards.

Develop student class schedules and teacher assignments annually as well as maintaining student and faculty/staff rosters.

Be responsible for implementation of IEPs, as required by the policies and procedures of MSD and MD Dept. of Education.

Determine school closings, early dismissals, and/or delays as necessary due to inclement weather in conjunction with the Frederick Campus Principal.

Oversee transportation of students and ensure effective communication with students' counties of residence.

Approve all support services requests/meal requests for school functions and approve field trip requests.

Assist in the development and implementation of the instructional budget; manage the campus budget as well as recommend and participate in determining necessary capital budget projects.

Gather consumer feedback through close contact with parents, local educational agencies, and Deaf community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Master's Degree in School Administration, Education of Deaf students, Education of Deaf students with additional disabilities, or related field.

Maryland State Department of Education Administrator or Principal Certificate required (or the ability to obtain in a specific time).

Minimum of three years of combined successful classroom teaching, supervisory, and/or educational administrative experience required.

Experience working with Common Core curriculum and promoting academic rigor desired.

Experience working with students with special needs along with knowledge about Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and crisis management desired.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Must be proficient in American Sign Language and written English.  Knowledge of Deaf community required.
