Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only state-wide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

Digital Video Specialist I is an entry level position into the world of Television broadcast. Digital Video Specialist I will take on many roles that are important to the daily operations of the station. One role will be Closed Captioner / Encoder. The other role will be video broadcast for studio and field productions. Field productions may require out of state travel. The Digital Video Specialist will also operate and troubleshoot the studio robotic camera system. The Digital Video Specialist will also assist with maintenance of all studio and remote equipment.

POSITION DUTIES

Serve MPT productions as a Video Operator who makes sure cameras and other equipment are set up and operating correctly within FCC / PBS specifications as well as responsible for routing various signals and monitoring program video for quality.

Assist the Senior Video Operator with the routine maintenance duties involving both studio and field equipment and assists the videotape department doing duplication.

Encode MPT productions for Video on Demand and deliver to Comcast, Fios and many other designated outlets.

Encode for MPT web outlets including the COVE player and MPT’s YouTube channel. Many of these procedures are time sensitive and need to be turned around promptly.

Create caption files in compliance with the FCC regulations for MPT productions utilizing transcripts provided by the producers as well as create and include captions for the web.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Media Communications, Audio Production, Digital Cinematography or other communications related field.

Experience: Two (2) years in television broadcasting

Note: Applicants may substitute qualifying experience on a year for year basis for the required bachelor's degree.
