Main Purpose of Job
This position serves as the Assistant Director for the Health Promotion and Prevention in the Behavioral Health Administration. The primary focus is to anticipate emerging and on-going public health threats and develop proactive responses to potential and actual multi-factorial public health issues related to mental health and substance use. This area facilitates integrated efforts between behavioral health and somatic health and develops capacity within communities to leverage the behavioral health promotion and prevention activities related to behavioral health. The primary focus of this position is to provide senior leadership and oversight to the team of professional program managers in the program service areas of Prevention, Early Intervention/Wellness, Workforce Development and Training, and Special Projects. This is a senior management position, reporting to the Deputy Director, with responsibility for leading the work of the organization which has 44 staff and an approximate budget of $31,000,000. Program services affect all citizens of Maryland because they are population-based interventions. This position manages the day to day operations and administrative service aspects of the organization in addition to providing oversight and direction over program service areas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Six years of professional experience in public or behavioral health services to include work related to prevention and early intervention of behavioral health disorders. Two years of this experience must have included supervision of professional staff and administrative management of a program service area.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred applicant should have experience as a jurisdiction-level coordinator of behavioral health prevention and early intervention services that utilize a public health approach; knowledge of workforce development issues and overdose prevention strategies; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and the ability work effectively with system-level and fiscal data to recommend policy changes.
