Introduction

The Maryland State Treasurer's Office is seeking a qualified, ambitious professional to implement and manage the Statewide Workers' Compensation program on behalf of all State employees.

Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as the sole contract administrator over the State's Workers' Compensation program and is responsible for ensuring that the State's contract with the TPA is analyzed on a regular basis and updated as required to accommodate the State's current needs, enforcing compliance with the contract by the TPA, monitoring activity and safeguarding the State's interest with respect to the workers' compensation claims processing services provided by the TPA, preserving and accurately accounting for the fund balance, and competitively procuring TPA services as deemed in the best interest of the State.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements:  Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The Ideal Candidate Should Have:

  • 6 years of  professional experience handling workers’ compensation claims for either an insurance company, self-insured or captive-insured employer, including 3 years at a supervisory/management level, and/or in a project management leadership role
  • Experience in contract administration at the management level,
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of  legal, regulatory and business aspects of Worker’s Compensation claims administration
  • Exceptional organizational, investigative and analytical skills
  • Ability to articulate, interact and communicate with a diverse group of individuals
  • Knowledge of insurance and medical terminology

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications will be admitted to examination for the classification.  Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.  Only those individuals whose applications reflect the necessary education and experience will be considered, so please describe all relevant experience and education in detail.
