Main Purpose of Job

This position provides training and supervision to an inmate work force in a correctional facility in the operations of wood furniture manufacturing and production.

POSITION DUTIES

This position is responsible for training and supervising an inmate work force in the operation of a manufacturing plant for the production of wood related products:

  • Responsible for assigned production process operating with full independence and reviewing the work of trainers
  • Set up and break down various machinery
  • Train/instruct inmates in proper use of production machinery 
  • Follows established and uniform production and inmate training record system
  • Inspects work-in process and finished goods
  • Trains and instructs inmates in Fire Safety, Equipment Safety and Personal Safety as related to their trade
  • Responsible for distributing tools to inmate workers and collecting them at the end of the shift
  • Participates in inmate head counts at beginning and end of shift as well as lunch periods

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

In order to meet this educational requirement a copy of your diploma or high school equivalency certificate must accompany your application.

For education obtained outside the United States, you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. This evaluation must be submitted with your application.

Experience: One year of experience in technical and production work of an industrial shop.

1. Specific educational requirements and other selection standards are set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code and are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
