Introduction

The Thomas B. Finan Center, a multi-purpose psychiatric facility operating 88 beds, is a primary inpatient component of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene serving the citizens of Maryland. Specialized evaluation and treatment services are available for adult and geriatric psychiatric patients.

This facility is two and a half hours from Baltimore, MD.

Main Purpose of Job

Provides general nursing including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of care given for a single shift to approximately 24 mentally ill patients. This position gives guidance to licensed practical nurses and direct care staff. This position may be assigned to any shift or unit to provide necessary coverage. All work is performed in accordance with established policy and procedures and professional practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses.

Experience: None.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. 3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2. Employees in the classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
