Main Purpose of Job

The Chief, Perinatal and Reproductive Health provides public health leadership and nurse consultation in promoting maternal and child health in Maryland. Specific programs for which the Chief is directly responsible include the federal Title X Family Planning Program, the Healthy Teens and Young Adults Initiative, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and Personal Responsibility and Education Program (PREP).  The Chief also assists in the coordination of the Babies Born Healthy Initiative. This position has statewide clinical nursing responsibilities that include consultation and technical assistance to hospitals, local health departments, professional groups, academic centers, community organizations and other stakeholders in the area of maternal and child health and reproductive health, as well as statewide administrative nursing responsibilities that include oversight for selected grants, contracts, and inter-governmental agreements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience:  Five years of experiences as a Registered Nurse including three years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity.

Notes:

1. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity may be substituted for the required education.

2. A PhD in Nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.  A copy of your current license or license verification must accompany your application.

2.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
