Main Purpose of Job

The purpose of this Nursing Program Consultant/Administrator II position is to lead, manage and administer all nursing programs that fall under the responsibility of the Human Resources Services Division, Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

POSITION DUTIES

Will take general directions from the Deputy Director for Administration for Human Resources Services Division, Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

Assumes direct responsibility for Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services employee health Nursing Program.

Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, supervises and evaluates the work of subordinate managers, employee health nursing workforce, contract personnel, and support staff.

Oversees the employee health nursing services program within Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, correctional institutions and other Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services facilities.

Establishes overall policies and procedures for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services employee health nursing program.

Oversees training instructions to employee health and nursing workforce staff.

Monitors Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services statewide training contracts.

Oversees and manages a dedicated budget funds associated with the nursing program.

Performs other duties as necessary and assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experiences as a Registered Nurse including two years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity.

Notes:

1. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity may be substituted for the required education.

2. A PhD in Nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification will travel around the state and work inside correctional facilities as required.
