Main Purpose of Job

To review, verify and interpret information in order to make determinations and resolve problems involving the calculation of adult inmate prison sentences in accordance with State laws and regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Reviews sentencing and release orders, accurately computes inmate’s terms, diminution credits and release dates in accordance with applicable laws, regulation, policies and procedures.  Accurately records calculations, credits and release dates within the commitment and diminution records. Reviews and verifies for accuracy calculations of inmate terms, credits and release dates.
  • Accurately computes and/or verifies the accuracy of calculation of inmate terms, diminution credits and release dates adjusted for time spent on escape, parole, mandatory supervision or court ordered release within the commitment and diminution records in accordance with applicable laws, regulation, policies and procedure.
  • Accurately awards, records and /or verifies the accuracy of earned and revoked diminution credits in accordance with applicable laws, regulations policies and procedure.
  • Assigns, reviews, approves the work of and trains lower-level Commitment Records Specialist.  Monitors work assigned to specialist, ensures work is completed within required time frames and reports work progress to the supervisor.  Develops and provides technical training to improve commitment records specialists’ skill level.
  • Successfully completes additional training as designated by the supervisor and/or manager. No later than six month after beginning employment, must successfully complete automated systems and commitment training as designated by the director. 
  • Accurately prepares or verifies the accuracy and timeliness of prepared correspondence not later than the established due date.
  • Accurately lodges detainers and/or verifies detainers are properly lodged against inmates in accordance with established procedure.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience in reviewing, verifying, and interpreting information in order to make determinations and resolve problems involving the calculation of prison sentences in accordance with applicable laws, and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
