Main Purpose of Job

The mission of the Prevention and Health Promotion Administration is to protect, promote and improve the health and well-being of all Marylanders and their families through provision of public health leadership and through community-based public health efforts in partnership with local health departments, providers, community based organizations, and public and private sector agencies, giving special attention to at-risk and vulnerable populations.

The mission of the Center for Sexually Transmitted Infections Prevention is to reduce and prevent sexually transmitted infections in Maryland. Preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and their complications is essential for improving both sexual and reproductive health.

Reporting to the Deputy Center Chief, this position will assist the Center and local health departments with analysis and usage of STI surveillance data. The position will monitor STI surveillance data completeness, accuracy, and timeliness and provide quality assurance reports to local health departments to improve data quality. This position will work with other Centers within the administration to share data to improve surveillance data and prevention activities. The position will monitor and analyze STI clinic capacity data from local health departments. The position will contribute to STI grant objectives and performance measure reports. The position will assist with determining disease rates and trends and provide data to be used for policy decisions and funding. The position participates in program evaluation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of state and local interventions. The position assists with receipt and dissemination of electronic laboratory reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.

Experience: Two years of experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance as an epidemiologist subsequent to receipt of the Master’s degree.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science  classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of two years of STI or HIV epidemiology experience.  This information must be reflected on your application to receive credit. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have experience with the Patient Reporting Investigating Surveillance Manager (PRISM) data system.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
