Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Juvenile Services currently has a vacancy for a Maintenance Supervisor IV position located at Charles H. Hickey, Jr. School in Baltimore County, MD. The Maintenance Supervisor IV position will provide management of the facility maintenance department at the Charles H. Hickey, Jr. School, Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center, Waxter 's Center, Maryland Youth Residence Center, William Donald Schaefer House, along with providing maintenance services to 12 field offices and the Department's Legislative Office and Headquarters Office. The facilities provide services to youth under the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Services. The position shall include, but is not limited to, managing a staff of maintenance people engaged in various trades such as electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, locksmith, grounds keeping, etc, prioritizing and assigning work orders, performing semi-annual roof inspections complete with reports, submitting Project Justification forms for all identified repairs/ replacements, performing annual facility inspections and submitting PMO forms, preparing drawings and specifications for all funded projects and inspecting the work performed by contractors for all repairs/replacements. Experience with writing construction specification for bid documents, scheduling and coordinating preventative maintenance work, FMIS and computer spreadsheets, word processing and database programs are highly preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Nine years experience in stationary engineering, building maintenance or building construction trades including eight years of responsibility assigning, reviewing and approving the work of others and disciplining, evaluating the performance of and recommending the hiring, firing and promoting of others.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance specialty codes in the utility systems repair field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

•  Three years experience writing construction specifications for bid documents.

•  Five years experience scheduling and coordinating preventative maintenance work.

•  Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and database programs and FMIS.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to current Maryland State Government Employees.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification series may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list categorized as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified. Candidates shall be certified to the eligible list for a year.
