Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to perform daily FDA required tobacco inspections and enforcement activities to identify retailers who are non-compliant with Federal and State Tobacco Laws. This position will provide direct field oversight, while safely transporting the Youth Investigators, and assisting them in the inspection of retail establishments in various geographic areas of the state, ensuring they follow FDA and State Inspection protocol. This position will also be responsible for providing and maintaining a reliable and an alternate vehicle. This employee will appear in court, as needed, for non-compliant tobacco retailer hearings, providing testimony and evidence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year to year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • professional experience conducting inspections for law enforcement; health, food or drug enforcement; or other relevant experience with state, local, or tribal government
  • at least one year of professional experience with data collection for reporting purposes

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Since this position requires a driver's license, applicants may be asked to provide a copy of their driving record.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This position may require the successful candidate to pass a Federal Criminal Background Check.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
