Introduction

The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Regional Diversification Manager within its Office of Military and Federal Affairs.

LOCATION OF POSITION

This position is located in Hughesville, MD (Charles County).  Occasional travel to the Department’s main office at the World Trade Center in downtown Baltimore City is required.

Main Purpose of Job

The primary responsibility of the position is the daily management of economic diversification activities specific to the Southern Maryland Technology Commercialization Pilot Program. The incumbent will monitor the scope of work of the Pilot Program funded by a Federal Grant.

POSITION DUTIES

Individual will work in conjunction with the State, local communities and defense organizations to advance defense diversification plans unique to the strengths and opportunities of the defense community; partner with Commerce’s Defense Industry Outreach Coordinator and local economic development officers to outreach to Maryland companies within Southern Maryland as identified within the Defense Supply Chain and prepare and submit quarterly and annual programmatic reports associated with the Pilot Program for the review and approval of the Grant Program Manager. The selected candidate will possess excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills with strong attention to detail; ability to work in a fast paced environment and handle multiple concurrent tasks.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year to year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Must be familiar with programs and resources provided by federal, state, and local government agencies that support economic development, technology, commercialization, exporting and workforce development.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Google Mail, Word, Excel, Access, Internet and or other relevant software preferred. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
